About this app
I downloaded Gecko Out at 2 AM because I thought, why not? What I found was equal parts childish grin and forehead slap. You drag geckos by their ends, line them up with same-colored holes, and try not to watch the timer taunt you. Levels start cute and clean, then—surprise—get very...tightly choreographed (in a maddening way). Controls are simple; depth comes from length, color overlap, and tiny choke points that make you rethink a move you just loved. Not for speedrun purists only. Casual? Sure. Competitive? Also yes, if you like your calm sliced with panic. I played on both iPhone and Android (links in the store pages). If you want quick bites of puzzle rage or a late-night brain snack, this one punches above its weight.
Editor's Review
Look, I’m not going to sugarcoat it: I rage-quit level 12 for two hours. Seriously — two stubborn, thumb-numbing hours. But then I beat it, and the high felt ridiculous (in a good way). The hook is stupidly simple: drag geckos from their tails or heads, snake them through tight corridors, and land them in their matching holes before time slaps you. Don’t expect hand-holding. There’s no infinite hint system. That’s good. You’ll learn patterns, not rely on autoplay. Visuals are bright, almost toy-like, which fools you into thinking this won’t punish you. It will. The soundtrack? Cheerful, then loop-fatiguing if you marathon too hard (use headphones or mute and curse quietly). Bugs? Minor clipping here and there, but nothing game-breaking. Bottom line — addictive, pocket-sized chaos with real brain-tickling moments. Not flawless. Not forgiving. Exactly what a late-night puzzle fix should be.
Pros
- Simple drag controls that feel immediate on touchscreens
- Short levels perfect for quick sessions or frustrating marathon runs
- Distinct color-and-length puzzles that require timing, not just pattern memory
- Bright, readable visuals — you’ll know at a glance what’s happening
Cons
- Timer pressure can feel unfair on some later stages
- Music loops get repetitive during long plays
- Minor visual glitches on certain devices (rare but present)
