About this app

I keep this app on my phone for one stupid reason: it stops me from logging into the PC all the time just to check prices. No joke. The FINAL FANTASY XIV Companion puts a surprising number of game controls in your pocket — chat, friend list, event scheduling, item moves, market board browsing and purchases, plus retainer ventures. It’s not the full game. Don’t expect to play while logged in on your PC; item management and market board actions are blocked if the associated account is active in-game. That’s by design. Short paragraph. Seriously. Chat is simple: message friends, Free Company and Linkshell members. You can see who’s online, ping people, and post event invites. The Event List acts like a lightweight calendar — create a raid invite, edit times, and spam your FC (sorry, not sorry). Item Management lets you sort, move, sell, or discard — which I admit I once did too fast and sold a stack I meant to keep (facepalm). Market Board uses in-app currencies: Kupo Nuts (free login bonuses) and Mog Coins (paid). You can list or buy items with them — but again, if you’re logged into the main game you can’t access the market through the app. "Hey, you coming to raid?" — a text I’ve actually used from my grocery line. There’s also retainer venture assignment. Toss a couple Kupo Nuts or Mog Coins, send your retainer off, and hope they come back with something worth bragging about. Notifications are hit or miss on some devices (I get annoyed — not gonna lie). The app needs Android 7.0 or later, and devices with tiny screens (under 5") may display strange layouts. Also: an active service account and subscription are required. You get a 30-day grace on chat after your subscription lapses, but that’s it — after thirty days everything drops. I don’t want to sugarcoat this: the Companion isn’t a miracle. It’s a practical tool for social coordination, trading checks, and remote retainer chores. If you lead a Free Company, play the market, or forget to log in, it’ll become one of those apps you fling open at odd hours. If you expect full parity with the game client — nope. But for quick management and staying in touch while you’re away from your PC, it’s solid enough to keep.

Editor's Review

I’ve been using the Companion for months and — full disclosure — it’s saved me more than once. I once set up a raid while waiting at the DMV (yes, really). The chat works; the event scheduler keeps the drama to a minimum; and the retainer ventures? Convenient. But it’s not flawless. The interface can feel clunky on certain phones, and notifications don’t always arrive when they should (which has led to missed pulls — and angry guildmates). I dropped my phone in a panic once because a retainer finished a venture and I had to decide if I should buy the return instantly. Wild. "You saw the price? Buy it now." — said me, once, before caffeine. I like that Kupo Nuts give a free-ish way to interact with the market, but don’t pretend they replace careful market watching. Mog Coins being behind a paywall is not a shock; it’s just a reality. Also — small gripe — cross-world market sniping still feels awkward when you’re on the go. The app is practical for leaders and traders, but casual players might find it overkill. Bottom line: I recommend it if you raid, run a Free Company, or dabble in market play. It’s not a replacement for the full client, and it’s not perfect, yet it behaves like a handy sidekick when you need to check an auction, ping a friend, or send a retainer off without booting up the game. Worth the install? For me: yes. For everyone? Depends on how much you care about micromanaging inventory from your couch.

Pros

  • Quick event scheduling that actually cuts down on in-game invites
  • Remote retainer venture assignment — useful when you're away from PC
  • Market board access (with Kupo Nuts/Mog Coins) for price checks and fast buys
  • Lightweight chat for Free Company and Linkshell without logging into the game

Cons

  • Item management and market access blocked while logged into the main game
  • Notifications can be unreliable on some devices — missed invites happen
  • Mog Coins are paid; Kupo Nuts are sparse as a free currency
  • UI can feel cramped or glitchy on small-screen phones
